Is copy trading allowed on prop firms?
Copying your own trades between funded accounts, copying someone else, and copying across firms: what prop firm rules usually allow, what gets accounts closed, and how to check.
Short answer: it depends on the firm and on whose trades you are copying. Rules change, so always read the current terms or ask support before you connect a funded account. This guide covers what to look for.
Copying your own trades between your own accounts
This is the most common case and the one most often allowed: you trade one account and a copier mirrors it to your other accounts at the same firm. Some firms allow it freely. Some allow it within their own firm only. Some ask you to tell them first.
Copying across different firms
Several firms treat identical trades across firms as a risk (it can look like hedging or account sharing) and may refuse a payout. Check the terms for words like copy trading, trade copiers, third party EAs, account management and identical strategies.
Copying someone else's trades
Copying a signal provider or another trader's account into a funded account is banned at many firms, because the account is meant to show your trading. It can also run into the firm's rules on account management.
Opposite trades between accounts
Using one account to hedge another (a buy on one, a sell on another) is almost always banned and is a common reason for closed accounts. A copier should only ever copy in the same direction.
How to check, step by step
- Search the firm's terms and FAQ for “copy” and “EA”.
- Ask support in writing and keep the reply.
- Check whether there is a limit on total allocation across your accounts.
- Run the copier on demo accounts for a week first, and check each follower took the same trades at its own size.

Questions people ask
Can I use a trade copier on a funded account?
Often yes, if you are copying your own trades between your own accounts. Some firms only allow it within their own firm and some need you to ask first. Always check the current rules.
Can I copy a signal provider into a prop firm account?
Many firms do not allow it, because the funded account is meant to show your own trading. Check the rules before you try.
Is hedging between accounts allowed?
Almost never. Opening opposite trades across accounts is a common reason firms close accounts and refuse payouts.
