The sweep
How the market grabs those stop losses.
Step by step
- Here’s the Asia box. Stop losses are sitting just above the Asia high.
- London opens and price climbs toward the high.
- One candle spikes above the high and sets off those stop losses...
- ...but it closes back inside the box. Price couldn’t stay up there. That’s a sweep: a raid on the stops, not a real move up.
- Once the stops are taken, price often travels back the other way. A sweep is the moment we start paying attention.
Remember: A sweep pokes through a level and fails to stay there. It’s a trap, not a breakout.
