New York: the 1pm break and retest
The afternoon setup: one candle, one break, one retest.
Step by step
- At 13:00 UK, mark the 13:00 to 13:15 candle, the first 15 minutes of New York: its high, its low and the middle. That candle is where the big money starts positioning for the day.
- US news at 13:30 UK often whips price through the zone. Ignore all of it. Nothing counts until the New York stock market opens at 14:30 UK.
- After 14:30 a candle closes above the zone. That’s the break: we’re looking to buy. If it broke below, we’d look to sell.
- Don’t chase the break. A buy limit sits on the midline and price comes back to retest it. Traders who sold the break are now trapped, and their stops add fuel.
- Stop just below the bottom of the zone, never more than 10 pips. If price falls through the whole zone, the break was fake.
- Target 1:3, or the London or Asia high when it’s further. Same rules as the morning: if London already traded one way, New York only trades that way too.
Remember: Mark the 13:00 to 13:15 UK candle, wait for 14:30 UK, then buy (or sell) the midline retest after a break. 10 pip stop, 1:3, one direction a day.
